Dental Implants

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants are tiny titanium posts which are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, dental implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration which occurs when teeth are missing. Call us at 781-848-0292 to schedule your appointment today.

Dental implants are changing the way people live! With them, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh and enjoy life.

Evaluation for Dental Implants by Dr. Cheng

If, like many others, you feel implant dentistry is the choice for you, we ask that you undergo a dental/radiographic examination and health history. During these consultation visits, your specific needs and considerations will be addressed by either Dr. Cheng or by an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon referred by our practice. Your questions and concerns are important to us and our team will work with you very closely to help make your procedure a success.

Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implants are metal anchors, which act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.

For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums, gradually bonding with the jawbone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your restorative dentist designs the final bridgework or denture, which will ultimately improve both function and aesthetics.

After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. The surgeon will uncover the implants and attach a small healing collar. Dr. Cheng can then start making your new teeth. An impression must be taken. Then posts or attachments can be connected to the implants. The replacement teeth are then made over the posts or attachments. The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months. Most patients do not experience any disruption in their daily life.

Kind words from our patients

5/5

I had an excellent experience at South Shore Smiles. Dr. Cheng and her assistant provided me with incredible reassurance throughout my appointment. Not only did they fill my cavity efficiently, but I also experienced zero pain during the procedure. I truly appreciate their expertise and care, making my visit comfortable and stress-free. As someone who is notoriously picky about choosing a dentist, I am incredibly thankful to have found a provider that I trust and comfortable with! Highly recommend!

A very pleasant experience. It started with a wonderful reception from Mary at the front desk. My dental assistant Adella was very knowledgeable of my procedure and took the time to make sure I understood everything. Dr. Cheng was a spectacular final touch on my visit. The office environment is tastefully decorated and very welcoming.

South Shore Smiles is a welcoming, relaxing office with a great team! Close to the Braintree exit of Route 3, it is convenient and easy to find. Dr. Cheng is warm, professional, and makes sure you understand your treatment plan and preventative maintenance recommendations. The whole team is kind and friendly. If you are looking for an honest, patient-centered dentist, you have found one here!

Excellent staff and service. From the time I walked through their door to the time I left, everyone was attentive, kind, professional, and caring. My dental hygienist was attentive and went the extra mile to get me warm water to rinse with after asking and learning of the sensitivity of one tooth. My dentist took the time to ask questions and actually listened to my responses. Best dental care I have EVER received! If you are looking for a caring and competent dental team – you will find it with South Shore Smiles. Thanks for making my daughter and I feel cared for!

Hating going to the dentist is a thing of the past! The staff here could not be any kinder and more personable. Very cute office space too! I got my Invisalign done by Dr. Cheng two years ago and the difference in my smile is like night and day. I got my teeth cleaned by Christine yesterday as well and and she was a pleasure to chat with (along with the two ladies working in reception, so sorry but I did not catch their names!) I would recommend going here to absolutely anyone, only dentist’s office I will go to for the rest of my life.
